I’ve seen some interesting matches at Copa America the last couple of days. It’s all going down tonight in Group C where all teams got 3 points before the last two matches:

1 BRAZIL 1-0-1 2-2 3 POINTS
2 PERU 1-0-1 2-2 3 POINTS
3 COLOMBIA 1-0-1 1-1 3 POINTS
4 VENEZUELA 1-0-1 3 POINTS

Colombia plays Peru and Brazil takes on Venezuela. It’s pretty weird that the matches aren’t played at the same time with Colombia kicking off at 21:00 and Brazil 23:30.

The to best 3rd ranked teams will qualify for the quarter finals. Ecuador are pretty doomed in Group A with 3 points and a score of -2, so in Group C 3 points and a score of -1 or better will be enough to qualify.

In other words, I don’t expect Colombia – Peru to be much about attacking football. Both teams qualify with a draw and even a one-goal draw. The bad thing is that the 3rd placed team in this group will play Argentina – yikes!

However, if Colombia or Peru loses the match, Brazil and Venezuela can both qualify with a draw, so it’s not like I expect either team to go all-out-attack if the score is tied with 15 minutes to go.

Tactically, I like few goals here as well. In the World Cup 2014 qualifiers Colombia won 2-0 at home and 1-0 away against Peru, and Peru actually defended well against Brazil despite a 2-1 loss.
